This idea is a little impromptu because I just started trying this money maker out a couple of months ago. Basically, when the price of Granite started its suicidal high dive into an empty pool I decided that it was time to come up with something that would still provide a tidy income but be fairly easy to acquire. So I came up with potatoes.

First thing we need to start my “Hot Potato” technique of money making is to get our hands on potatoes. This should be no problem for anyone. There are potato fields all over Runescape. My favorite one is between Lumbridge and Draynor Village. From that field you can easily fill your inventory, run to the Draynor bank, and run back to the field. And the best thing is the potatoes are free. Of course you can also farm your own potatoes, which gives the added benefit of nominal farming experience. But maybe you are a complete lazy arse. In that situation potatoes can be purchased on the Grand Exchange for around 89 gp.

Step two of the “Hot Potato run for the Money” is to get your hands on pats of butter. I highly recommend churning your own butter because its GE price is 596 gp. Purchasing it on the GE will deeply cut into you profits and nullify any point to doing this technique. Thankfully, churning butter is not hard. All you need is a bucket of milk. In this situation I purchase the milk on the GE for around 95 gp. But you can also just as easily milk the dairy cows throughout Runescape. I recommend using the farm south of Falador. The cows are near to a churn and a bank isn’t too far away. For me, I buy the milk and then churn the butter in the Cooking Guild which is within sneezing distance of the Grand Exchange. The churn is on the second level (1st floor/story for our European friends). If you have completed the Varrock achievment diary then you can use the bank of the first floor of the guild.

Step three is very easy. Bake the potatoes. Find a range. Do not use open fires. I use the Cooking Guild and the ranges located right by the churn. After I have all the potatoes I want cooked, I return the Grand Exchange and start the finishing touches. Use the pats of butter on the potatoes. When you see the little yellow ‘x’ on your potato you know you have a food item worth around 912 gp. A full inventory of baked potatoes with butter will earn upwards of 20k in gold. When I get a good rhythm going I average out to about 60k in an hour. Fast and easy money.

Some final thoughts. Try not to accidentally eat the potatoes. At every step in the potato cooking process, left clicking will cause you to automatically eat the potato. Churning the butter takes time and is boring. Make sure you don’t accidentally time out while you wait. Don’t forget to be wearing a Chefs Hat if you plan on using the Cook Guild.
Might as well spend a little more time on those potatoes and turn them into Tuna Potatoes, which are worth more than twice that of the regular Potato with Butter,

Here is the method for making Tuna Potatoes:

1) Purchase or fish Tuna, and cook them.
2) Purchase cooked sweetcorn (farming them takes too long)
3) buy a bunch of bowls and a knife
4) use knife on cooked tunas to fill bowls with chopped tunas.
5) use the cooked sweetcorn on these tuna filled bowls
6) then use these tuna and corn bowls with ur buttered potatoes

This will more than double your profits as a single tuna potato sells for nearly 2k each; not to mention that it shares the number one spot with Manta Rays for the best foods in the game.(heals 22hp)

in about 2 days (mostly making butter) i made 1000 tuna potatoes worth about 1.9mil and spent only about 200k on sweetcorn, bowls, potatoes, and milk buckets. (best place to get milk buckets is from the culcorameters chest after recipe for disaster quest. You can also buy up to 10 pats of butter from here too at 5gp each)

P.S. can someone raise my warning level to 99%? I wanna feel like a badass!
Potatoes are a pretty good money maker. I purchased raw potatoes, cooked tuna, bowls of sweet corn and buckets of milk off the GE. Amounting to about 200k worth of materials, I then made about 450 tuna potatoes and sold for about 900k, 700k profit for about 2-2.5 hours of work. In the future I'll buy bowls of tuna however and chop the sweet corn into those for a higher profit.
wow this sound like a great money maker cant wait 2 try it ty all for your helpfull post
I wouldn't expect it to be interesting, be ready to spend a good portion of your time tediously adding ingredients in your inventory. It is rewarding though when you sell and make a nice profit, especially when they all sell instantly due to the high demand.
I have tried this and if you dont make your own everything then it can become little more than about 200gp profit per one, making i totally useless.
it is also very time consuming if you do it either way, not matter the amount of money you get as a result, how long did it take you to do 1000?
i am not comenting i am merly just offering my thoughts.
Your all good people for sharing your wealth success with the public but the sad thing is most people don't seem to go through this effort anymore. Before potatoes could add extras i used to sit in wildy bandit camp and fish anchovies, pick up tomatoes and cheese off table and kill one bandit and could afford many pizza bases off tony then sell to general store right next door. It was grand worthy.
