A new box has been added to the GEC main page. It lists the four most popular items visited on the GEC over the past week. It should give you an idea of what items GEC visitors are most interested in. New lists will be coming soon that will list off the top most visited items over the past 48hrs, 7 days, and all time.
Dude!!! That's amazing, love the idea!! Will be sure to use it in the future!
I think I'm going to drop the tracking period on the main page from seven days to three days. That should increase the variety of items listed while still showing items of recent interest without accidentally revealing items that only a couple of visitors are secretly interest in.

Btw: the GEC only counts on visit in a row to any item from any individual ip address. So you don't have to worry about accidently inflating an items visits by visiting it's page repeatedly. It'll only count a repeat visit if someone else has looked at the item before your visit. We also ignor visits from search engine bots.
Yeah, that seems like a great idea for those interested in viewing the popular items. I'll be sure to use this in the future.
Sounds like a great idea, just one thing I use Opera as my browser and it doesn't show up in that. I did have a look using IE and the pages look totally different, its like viewing two different web sites.

I tend not to use IE as I find it too laggy on my system.

edit: reading known issues - found Opera being redirected to old pages.
Actually, I just opened up Opera to the new redesign. But only Opera versions 10+. A note of warning, some elements might not line up perfectly on these newly designed pages in Opera. Opera, of all browsers, does not play nice with CSS. I was actually quite surprised by that. Its too bad because I normally use Opera. The old design pages of the GEC are no longer supported and no new features or corrections are done to these pages. But almost everyone should have the new design now anyway (only those very few people who have Opera 7,8,9 would be left in the dark).
I have Opera 10+ version and happy to report can now see the same as what it looks like in IE. Thanks Smile
man it is a shame that people who make browsers can't seem to all agree on the standards set. Mozilla and Chrome seem to be the ones that follow it pretty closely to the same.
Currently I use Chrome almost exclusively for my browsing and web development. I know if it looks right in Chrome, it'll look right in several other browsers. I tweak things ever so slightly for IE; but IE in 7.0 compatibility mode works pretty nice. IE8 isn't so wonderful, but the page force IE8 into 7.0 mode automatically so I'm not too concerned with that issue. Firefox and Safari both seem to be identical to Chrome in handling.

I only optimize the site for the latest version of IE, Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Opera. But slightly older versions of those browsers (with the exception of Opera) should handle the site nicely.
Ok, I dropped down the tracking time on the main page from seven to three days (including the current one). So if today is Friday, the popular items will count visits for Friday, Thursday, and Wednesday only. This should allow the Popular Items box to be more dynamic without revealing any members secrets.
